November 16, 2023

Halton Food for Thought is thankful to be teaming up once again with Rock Legends Live in the spring of 2024!

Join us at the Essence of Cohen concert on Friday February 9th at The Burlington Performing Arts Centre. This year’s concert is a stunning recreation of Leonard Cohen's famous London Concert.

The poetic and lyrical legacy of Canadian icon, Leonard Cohen will be celebrated by Montréal-born, Robert Shea in this musical concert dedicated to the unique Canadian. Shea and his talented band members are supporters of Halton Food for Thought and want to give back to their local Halton community.

Proceeds from ticket sales of this concert will help support the strength and sustainability of local student nutrition programs. This concert allows them to support things they love - music and students.

Cohen’s baritone and much-loved bluesy “vibe” are brought to life by Shea with an outstanding band of musicians and vocalists joining. You will hear the Cohen songs that helped define his soulful persona throughout the decades, from his familiar early hits to his powerful later works. Please join us on February 9!

Tickets for the concert are only $60 (all in). A portion of the proceeds of ticket sales for this performance will be donated directly to Halton Food for Thought. CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS

Additional opportunities to support Halton Food for Thought the night of the event will include a raffle and silent auction with items such as Muskoka Chairs painted by local students, Scavenger Hunts by Let’s Roam , tickets to the RBC Canadian Open, a signed TFC jersey and more! Check out all the great prizes here: The Essence of Cohen Concert Silent Auction (trellis.org)

The 3 Main Ways

What began with food programs at 6 Halton schools in 1997 has now evolved to 130+schools in Halton programs in every Halton school, ensuring that no student in the region goes hungry at school.

Along with our community partners and army of volunteers, we are able to nourish and nurture generations of students. We know that nutrition is essential to their success and that habits established in childhood set the foundation for healthy behaviours in adulthood.

Our work is even more crucial, given that Canada remains one of the few industrialized countries with out a national school food program. As a result, access to proper nutrition is inconsistent and systems rely mainly on ‘patchwork’ solutions.

Donate

Our history isn’t uncommon; a grassroots group of people who identify a problem and come together to form a solution.  In this case, one of the strongest groups you can have behind your cause: Parents. Fast forward to 2007, just ten years later, and HFFT became an incorporated, registered, charity with its own Board of Directors and 63 programs. As of July 2019, HFFT has partner programs in 130 schools, providing more than 79,000 Halton students access to healthy food at school.

Advocate

In the spring of 2014, we set out to revive the agency. We wanted to realign ourselves with our cause and ensure all of our work was unified toward one goal. Our Mission and Vision are the core of our values and fuel all of our work in the community. In partnership with the community, we feed students healthy food so they can succeed.
