It was with great sadness that Halton Food for Thought along with the Halton District School Board community learned of the passing of Halton District School Board teacher Meghan Park (nee Doherty) in December 2024. Meghan was a beloved teacher, wife, daughter, sister and friend to many in the Halton community and will truly be missed by those who knew her.
Her passion for teaching at Hawthorne Village PS went beyond the classroom, knowing that students need more than lessons to help them learn – they also need to have access to nutritious food to ensure their bodies are fueled for the school day ahead. Meghan recognized that combining her passion for the work of Halton Food for Thought’s Student Nutrition Programs with her teaching skills supported her students’ well-being both inside and outside the classroom while at school.
This led to her supporting her school’s Student Nutrition Program after seeing the benefits to her students; better concentrating, participating more fully in the school day and most importantly supporting every student who was hungry – no questions asked.
The staff and board at Halton Food for Thought have shared our deepest condolences with Meghan’s family during this time. We are grateful for the support we received from Meghan throughout her career at HDSB. It is with the support of teachers like Meghan that we can reach over 95,000 students daily during the school year, helping them reach their full potential.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to Halton Food for Thought to support the work of the organization and a cause that Meghan was passionate about. You can donate in honour of Meghan to help us fight student hunger here: Donations
