Halton Food for Thought (HFFT) is excited to welcome our newest school St. Vincent CES to our family launching our newest Student Nutrition Program (SNP) in Oakville. This new program connects over 130 students daily to healthy snacks at school to fuel their day ahead.
The Program was started by the school’s Principal Tracey Babic who came to St. Vincent in 2023. Principal Babic’s previous school had an SNP, and she saw first-hand the benefits it provided to her students – keeping them nourished and allowing them to concentrate and participate more in their school day.
The school community is excited about this new addition to the programs they offer their students. Daily the program is managed by St. Vincent’s Secretary Natasha Argudo, who stepped up to coordinate the purchasing of food, filling and distribution of bins to each classroom. We are grateful for the commitment of Natasha to help us connect the school’s students to healthy food.
“The introduction of the Healthy Food Bin has been a great addition to the programs that we have running here at St. Vincent! It has been helpful to all students including those who forgot a snack or who are still hungry and would like to have an extra snack to fuel their mind and body throughout the day.” Natasha let us know when asked about the program so far, “We’ve had positive feedback from teachers and students of course!”
The launch of this program was also made possible thanks to funding received by the Halton Region Community Investment Fund to help HFFT expand its programing throughout Halton Region to work towards our goal of providing access to all students in Halton. Without supportive community partners such as Halton Region, we would not be able to continue to expand our work across the region.
