As the 2024/25 school year is off to a great start, we are excited about Student Nutrition Programs (SNPs) getting underway across Halton. Our 152 school partners work to provide 95,000 students with access to healthy and nutritious meals and snacks at school daily.
Our programs are facilitated by over 1,600 volunteers who help to order and shop for nutritious fruits, vegetables, proteins like cheese and chickpeas and whole grains like granola bars. Volunteers also help pack and prepare food for students via bins delivered directly to classrooms, carts in common areas or sit-down breakfast options depending on the type of program.
We are so grateful to this group of volunteers made up of parents, school staff, students and community volunteers who help to make these programs happen. They are truly helping #FuelTheFuture of Halton students.
To kick-off the new school year, partner schools will be joining in a Fall edition of the Great Big Crunch over two weeks starting October 7. Students at participating schools are going to crunch together into a healthy apple during their event to celebrate SNPs and healthy eating. In doing so students are introduced to their school’s SNP through participating in the event. The Great Big Crunch and the school’s SNP encourage all students to participate to create a warm environment where everyone feels welcome to participate.
Watch out on social media where we will be sharing photos from our partner schools and celebrating SNPs.
