Program Spotlight Tecumseh PS

May 23, 2024

In May we are taking time to spotlight the Tecumseh PS Student Nutrition Program. All of our programs are run providing universal access to students and are delivered through a non-stigmatized approach with an aim to encourage all students to participate and access the healthy meals and snacks they need to fuel their day ahead.

The way in which schools provide this sense of welcoming to the program for students can take many forms, to support student participation in the program. Each breakfast at Tecumseh they set aside 2 blue plates for a pair of brothers. These brothers love to eat their breakfast with these particular plates and will shuffle through the stack of colourful dishes to find them for their school breakfast. To support their experience and welcome them to breakfast, the volunteers at Tecumseh reserve the plates for the brothers to enjoy their meal on the plate of their choice with their fellow students in a non-stigmatized manner.

At Halton Food for Thought we are grateful for the dedication and support we receive at each school and are happy that volunteers from this school will join us at Breakfast Bash this year and share their stories with us. Encouraging all students to participate in our programs supports access to healthy food that can fuel their day ahead supporting their health and wellbeing. Through small gestures, such as these, we can continue to work towards no student going hungry at school.
