School Spotlight: Post’s Corners Public School

This month we are highlighting Post’s Corners Public School’s Student Nutrition Program. The school’s program is delivered five days a week to the students at the school through the support of the school’s leadership, parents and student volunteers who work together to ensure the over 800 students have access to nutritious food.

Each morning, parent volunteers organize healthy food options made up of fruit, dairy and grain choices. The food is delivered via carts to four different areas of the school, so students have the same access whether they are in classrooms on the school’s different floors or in portables. A special delivery is made to the kindergarten classes to allow younger students the chance to have access to any food they may need.

Students and parents partner up to deliver the food and encourage students to take what they need to ensure they have the food they need to fuel their day ahead.

Through this engagement with the Student Nutrition Program the school has seen students gain confidence, form friendships and start to take on further leadership roles. This was seen this year, when three grade six students planned the FEEDUARY visit to Post’s Corners which welcomed local politicians, school board members and other special guests. The visit was a huge success in spreading awareness about the program and how it supports students thanks to the support of the school’s leadership and dedication of these students.

At Halton Food for Thought we are grateful for the dedication and support we receive at each school and are happy that student, parent and school leaders will join us at Breakfast Bash this year and share their stories with us.
